|  | UPDATE: The Village of Mabou with the assistance of partners (Ekistics Planning & Design, Enterprise Cape Breton Corporation, Nova Scotia Economic & Rural Development and the Strait-Highlands Regional Development Agency) has finalized and produced a planning document for Mabou Village and future developments. The Village of Mabou Conceptual Plan provides vision and development plans spanning a twenty-five year period including conceptual designs and plans for the Mabou Façade & Streetscape Program now underway.  Project Background
The Mabou & District Community Development Association, in partnership with the Strait-Highlands Regional Development Agency (SHRDA), and Ekistics Planning & Design, are preparing a future development plan for the Community. The plan will be a long term, sustainable vision for the Community. To prepare the plan we are looking to the community, who know the area well, for ideas and solutions. The plan will be based on this information. The plan, we hope, will excite residents and investors, including government partners, in the future possibilities for Mabou.
 Community Consultations
The public workshop, held on August 12th, 2010 at the Dalbrae Conference Room had a good turnout of interested residents. Four key ideas were brought up. The first stressed the importance of developing places for people to build homes near the Community. The second theme expanded on the idea of 20-20 vision for Mabou - finding the attraction that will bring 20 young people to the Community or the 20 weeks of the fall and winter. Third, the music and Celtic language that are at the heart of Mabou must be further celebrated. Last, participants highlighted the vast array of amazing assets in Mabou. The Convent, waterfront and harbour, are all ready for further development.
