Small Business Week Innovation Award

Small Business Week Innovation Award

2010 Innovation Award Winner Bay Boats Ltd.

2009 Innovation Award Winner Caper Gas
The Innovation Award is based on the premise that innovation boosts productivity, which leads to prosperity. The Strait Area Chamber of Commerce, in conjunction with the Strait-Highlands Regional Development Agency and Bell Aliant, established this award in 2009 to recognize those companies, organizations, projects, or individuals that best exemplify this inventive and progressive spirit.

What do we mean by "innovation?"

The selection committee will approach the definition in the broadest sense. They look for new technologies and new ways of doing things. These innovations may originate on the manufacturing line, in the research lab, on the fisherman’s wharf, in the quarry, the marketing department, the training room, or the boardroom. Some innovations reflect a major breakthrough. Others result from an accumulation of small developments. All innovations influence positively an organization’s performance, productivity, quality or competitiveness.

Specifically, the nominee:
  1. Must have conceived and/or implemented the innovative practice within the last five years,
  2. Must have seen results within the last twelve months, and
  3. Must be able to show that the innovative practice measurably impacts the organization's performance, productivity, quality or competitiveness.
