| | The Strait-Highlands RDA is pleased to inform everyone that Milestone Two of Strait-Highlands Green Action is now complete after several months of intensive work on this phase. This completes the second of three milestones that the Strait-Highlands Regional Development Agency currently has funding secured for. The Partners for Climate Protection Program (a program of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities - FCM) includes the following Five Milestones:
Milestone | Description of Work | Status |
1 | Energy and emissions inventory and forecast | Complete |
2 | Set a reduction target | Complete |
3 | Develop a plan to achieve
the target | In progress |
4 | Implement the plan | |
5 | Measure the results | |
Milestone Two essentially presents the suggested path that Municipalities and communities need to follow to reduce harmful greenhouse gas emissions and keep money circulating in our local economy. The team assigned to this initiative has met with the key staff within each of the partner municipalities (Richmond County, Inverness County and the Town of Port Hawkesbury) to get some feedback on some of the goals and strategic directions of the green action plan. With a working document in place to outline targets and scenarios (Business as usual, Recommended and Optimistic Results) we are now well-positioned to move forward with the completion of the Community Energy Plan for the Strait-Highlands Region. In addition to municipal operations, this plan includes energy reduction measures for Residential, Commercial, Institutional, Transportation, and Industrial Sectors. The Milestone Three Report is scheduled for release early next month.
The Milestone Two Report was completed in partnership between the Strait-Highlands Regional Development Agency and CBCL Ltd. of Halifax.
