RESL signs agreement with Nova Scotia Power on Point Tupper Wind Farm

Renewable Energy Services Ltd. (RESL) today (Thursday) announced it has signed an agreement with Nova Scotia Power Inc. and is proceeding with the construction of the Point Tupper Wind Farm. Under the agreement, RESL will construct and operate the wind farm, and Nova Scotia Power will own up to 49% of the Richmond County wind project. This wind farm will bring 22.5 megawatts of clean energy onto the grid.

“We’re very pleased to have Nova Scotia Power involved in the Point Tupper project,” said Larry LeBlanc, CEO of RESL. “This agreement gives us the financial support we need to move this project ahead and build what will be the biggest wind farm yet in Cape Breton.”

Nova Scotia Power’s financial contribution to the project will be in the range of $28 million.

The project will install 11 Enercon E-82 turbines, each with a nameplate capacity of 2.05 MW and a hub height of 80 metres. The units were selected based on data generated from a 0.8 MW Enercon turbine RESL has operated at the site since 2006, and a meteorological tower that has been collecting wind data since early 2008. The project is expected to go into service during the third quarter of this year.
“RESL is a great company that has been producing wind power in Nova Scotia since 2005, and we’re happy to be in business with them,” said Robin McAdam, Executive Vice President, Sustainability, Nova Scotia Power. “This is an important investment in the clean electricity needs of our customers, and it’s a key component in our plan to meet the government’s renewable energy targets.”

RESL owns and operates turbines located across Nova Scotia in the communities of Brookfield, Goodwood, Digby, Marshville and Richmond County, which allows RESL to capture data in order to assess each area for further development. RESL also has two wind farms under development in Alberta.
