Their submissions met the contest criteria requirements and were chosen as the most sustainable and plausible ideas for the campus to implement in terms of cost benefit. Their ideas included suggestions such as installing solar panels on the facility’s roof to heat their water supply or generate electricity as well as installing motion sensor lighting in all classrooms and hallways to ensure that lights aren’t on when they’re not being used.
In October, NSCC Strait Area Campus won the 2011 GrassRoots Environmental Excellence Network (G.R.E.E.N.) Award for smart energy practices including energy demand side management and smart operational practices.
The S-HRDA would like to recognize NSCC Strait Area Campus for their continuing efforts to become a green leader, reduce their carbon footprint and help grow the green economy in the Strait-Highlands Region. |
