The 2010 Student Career Skills Development Program is being re-offered by Nova Scotia Economic and Rural Development. This is a wage reimbursement program designed to help students gain career-related work experience. Also from Nova Scotia Economic and Rural Development, the Co-operative Employment Program provides educational opportunities for post-secondary co-op students. Eligible employers must hire a student from an approved co-op program and are reimbursed by the Nova Scotia Economic Development for part of the student's wages. Government-funded organizations; municipal governments, and non-profit organizations in Nova Scotia are eligible. Canadian Heritage is currently accepting applications for the 2010 Young Canada Works Program. Young Canada Works (YCW) offers students and recent graduates the chance to put their skills to the test, build career equity, earn money for their education or get started on the right career path. Summer jobs and internships give young people access to unique opportunities to learn and work, whether it be to practise their second language, work in a museum, an Aboriginal friendship centre or even travel abroad. Young Canada Works also offers employers an opportunity to benefit from innovative ideas and competitive skills. Wage subsidies are available for eligible employers. Canada Summer Jobs is a Government of Canada initiative that provides funding to help employers create summer job opportunities for students, and is designed to focus on local priorities, while achieving tangible results for both students and their communities. Canada Summer Jobs is focused on encouraging not-for-profit organizations, public-sector employers and small businesses with 50 or fewer employees to create jobs that not only meet their needs, but also benefit students looking to gain work experiences. To support employers, the Canada Summer Jobs Applicant Guide will be made available on February 1, 2010. It offers information on eligibility requirements, assessment criteria, and the rating scale. The application period for Canada Summer Jobs 2010 will be from February 1 to February 26, 2010.
The St. Mary's University Co-op Program provides employers with student employees from programs in Saint Mary's University Sobey School of Business, Arts, Science and Master of Science in Applied Science. Students can provide relief during peaks in the workload or assist with special projects and are available year round. There are three work term seasons per year: Fall (September-December), Winter (January-April) and Summer (May-August).
