| | Strait-Highlands RDA is engaging partners in the development of a Community Economic Development Plan for the Town of Port Hawkesbury. S-HRDA has developed a framework for moving this planning process forward within a 12-15 month timeframe. The framework is based on several community development policy research papers, RDA best practices from across Nova Scotia, as well as our experience conducting similar projects in other communities in the region.
To advance this project, S-HRDA is currently seeking a Lead Researcher to collect and compile data for the development of a community profile and asset map for the Town. The Lead Researcher will be supported by a project steering committee and will report directly to S-HRDA management. Specifically, the Researcher is required to assist with the tasks below.
- Community Profiling (and Asset Mapping): The Lead Researcher will be responsible for collecting information related to Town boundaries, existing planning, demographics, activities, housing, etc. to create a comprehensive picture of what the Town of Port Hawkesbury currently ‘is’ (similar to benchmarking). Asset mapping will be a major component of this phase and will assist in understanding the Town’s current strengths and weaknesses. This is a critical step in the development of a go-forward plan; an accurate understanding of the community is necessary in developing a future vision that is attainable and closely connected to our assets.
- Consultation and Plan Development: Professionals in the field of community strategic planning will be engaged to produce a community economic development plan for the Town that is based on the information collected through the profiling phases above. The Lead Researcher will assist in coordinating consultations and providing information to support this activity.
This is a 6 month term position (full time). Salary commensurate with experience and/or qualifications.
Qualifications: Candidates should possess post-secondary education or an acceptable combination of education and related work experience. A minimum of 2 years related experience (in research and/or community development) would be an asset. Other skills required include strong Information Technology skills, organizational and research skills, communication skills (written and verbal), strong interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to be a team player and take initiative.
